Published

April 22, 2023

Overview

Similar pH, electrolytes, and osmolarity to the human body.

  • Concentration: 1x
  • pH 7.4

Uses

  • Washing tissues, cells
  • Common base solvent in many solutions

Components

  1. \(NaCl\)
  2. \(KCl\)
  3. \(Na_2HPO_4\)
  4. \(KH_2PO_4\)
  5. \(diH_20\)
  6. 1L sterile container

Preparation for 1L of 1x PBS

  1. Add 800 mL of \(diH_20\) a sterile container
  2. Add electrolytes
    1. 8g \(NaCl\)
    2. 0.2g \(KCl\)
    3. 1.44g \(Na_2HPO_4\)
    4. 0.245g \(KH_2PO_4\)
  3. Adjust pH to 7.4 by titrating appropriate amounts of \(Na_2HPO_4\) or \(KH_2PO_4\)

Preparation for 1L of 10x PBS

  1. Add 800 mL of \(diH_20\) a sterile container
  2. Add electrolytes
    1. 80g \(NaCl\)
    2. 2g \(KCl\)
    3. 14.4g \(Na_2HPO_4\)
    4. 2.45g \(KH_2PO_4\)
  3. Adjust pH to 7.4 by titrating appropriate amounts of \(Na_2HPO_4\) or \(KH_2PO_4\)
